Leila Mustafa is a Syrian Kurd. Her battle is for Raqqa, the erstwhile capital of Islamic State, which was reduced to rubble after the war. Trained as an engineer, she became mayor at the age of just 30. She has been plunged into a masculine world with a mission to rebuild her city, reconcile its inhabitants and establish democracy. A tall order.
A writer crosses the Iraq-Syrian border to come and meet her. In this still dangerous city she has 9 days to spend with Leila and to discover her story.
