Writer War correspondents

Curator: Karen Lajon
Designer: Laurent Hochberg

War is the quintessence of everything, the ultimate literary material. At what point does a newspaper article become insufficient? At what point does a war correspondent feel the need to write differently? Through articles, stories, novels and interviews, this exhibition explores the link between war correspondents and writing. Some have used fiction to try to heal themselves, others to campaign, denounce or resist. Still others have preferred to blur the lines between reality and imagination to the point of inventing new narratives, such as Ryszard Kapuscinski. The unspeakable has been transcended. We must read and listen to the voice of Jean Hatzfeld through the darkness of Rwanda. For Vassili Grossman, war was not just a subject, but the starting point for an exceptional literary work. But from the field to the book, they all had the same goal in mind: to conquer their freedom as authors and tell their truth.
