Killing Anna
Premiere
The extraordinary story of a woman who risks everything to expose one of the world’s most brutal regimes. When a Syrian academic living in Amsterdam receives shocking footage of a massacre carried out by an unknown army officer, she sets out to track down the perpetrators using unconventional methods.
How a shocking video from Syria led to an extraordinary police investigation. A Syrian academic living in Amsterdam receives footage of a massacre of civilians carried out by an unknown officer during the war in Syria. The video haunts her. She tracks down the perpetrator and poses as ‘Anna’ to make contact with him on Facebook, leading to a series of revealing phone calls.
Killing Anna is a deeply compelling documentary, featuring psychological analyses that are both sophisticated and, at times, surprisingly simple. Can a murderer be caught by probing the depths of his vanity and repressed conscience? And can one touch the fire without getting burnt?
A film by Sam Benstead, produced by Matt Cole and Charly Wai Feldman. Executive producer: Andrew Palmer.
The screening will be followed by a discussion moderated by Julie Dungelhoeff
