The Sahel: caught between the jihadist threat and the authoritarian drift of the military juntas

Against a backdrop of repression of journalists and dissenting voices, the Sahel is sinking ever deeper into violence. Faced with the military juntas in Mali,  Burkina Faso and Niger, and despite the alliance forged with Russia, jihadist and rebel groups are expanding their influence. The population, meanwhile,  continues to suffer the effects of the conflict, compounded by an economic and climate crisis, which are exacerbating the humanitarian situation. Journalist Olivier Dubois, a former correspondent for Libération in Mali, will discuss the difficulties of reporting on the situation in an area that has become a veritable information black hole, alongside Djenabou Cissé, a specialist in Sahel security issues at the Foundation for Strategic Research, and Guillaume Baret, an operations adviser at MSF.
