War reporting today: communicating, developing skills, sustaining a career
For over a decade, armed conflicts have profoundly transformed the conditions under which field journalism is practised. Faced with changing practices, increasingly precarious early careers, mounting risks and technological shifts, a new generation of reporters must find their place in an increasingly complex environment.
This event, organised by the intergenerational collective Frog of War, brings together three complementary perspectives on the profession. Photographer Édouard Elias will reflect on the evolution of war reporting over the last twelve years and the changes in fieldwork. Scott Laurent will present the training courses, support schemes and protective equipment made available to young reporters by the collective. Margaux Seigneur, a freelance journalist and part of the first generation of reporters trained by Frog of War, will discuss her career path, her experience in the field and the realities of covering contemporary conflicts.
A discussion on intergenerational knowledge transfer, risk preparedness and the conditions under which journalism is practiced in conflict zones.
