‘Nous, jeunesse(s) d’Iran’ (We, the youth of Iran)

Through six stories told by witnesses under the age of 25, the documentary ‘Nous, jeunesse(s) d’Iran’ takes an unprecedented look at Iranian society today. It’s a country fed on the internet and social networks, where one in ten Iranians is under 35. A people whose level of education is the highest in the Middle East, but where one young person in four is unemployed. Faced with the erosion of the Mullahs’ regime, the six stories – six different faces of Iranian youth – offer an exceptional insight into the transformations underway in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Using artificial intelligence (a first for a French documentary), which makes it possible to anonymise the faces while preserving their expressions, including that of Sarah, the main narrator, the film reveals these upheavals. In the intimate sphere and in the public arena, among religious and secular alike.

Director Solène Chalvon-Fioriti has used artificial intelligence to protect the people she talks to in her film. This process, a first in France, is an opportunity to consider the arrival of AI in journalism in general and in reporting in particular. After the screening, Lucas Menget will host a discussion with Solène Chalvon-Fioriti and other speakers to shed light on this ongoing revolution.
